Kim Scott-Wood of ON was honored by the PDGA this week as the 2006 Pro Rookie of the Year. Also in the running were Iowa’s Adam Olsen and Michigan’s Geoff Bennett. Minnesota’s Timmy Gill received an honor of a different sort, when the PDGA voted him the disc golf Sportsman of the Year and awarded him the Brent Hambrick Award for Sportmanship. With his second NT win of the season at the Canadian Open, 2005 World Champ Nathan Doss has cemented his place as the top ranked disc golfer in the world, according to independent rankings published by Marshall Street Disc Golf. The bump also puts Doss into the number one slot for 2007 Player of the Year. He is the first player to displace Ken Climo from the top spot since the rankings were established two years ago.
Competitors gathered from around the globe in Ithaca NY to compete in the WFDF World Overall Championships. After a week of tough competition, Team Discraft’s Tomas Burvall of Sweden emerged as the overall Champion, 19 points ahead of the 2nd place finisher. Teammate Chris Max Voigt of Germany took 4th overall.
