Sonoma Pro Am Jam
Hosted annually by the United Flyers of Sonoma, The Sonoma Pro Am Disc Golf Tournament is held the first weekend in June. This is a “B” tier PDGA and NorCal sanctioned event for both professional and amateur level players that has drawn participants from as far away as Hawaii and Florida. It is easily one of the most popular disc golf events in Northern California.
Now in its’ eighteenth year, the Pro Am has gone through some changes. For many years it was known as the KOA Pro Am Jam. With the loss of the Willits, the event was next held at Lake Mendocino and was known at the UFOS Pro Am Jam. This year it moved to what we hope will be its’ permanent home in Sonoma County. In this location, we have access to four disc golf courses:
- Lake Sonoma. A nine hold course soon to be expanded to 18 holes. This year we used temporary baskets to expand it. The course fairly close to the lake entrance.
- The Steve Werner Memorial Disc Golf Course at Crane Creek Regional Park in Rohnert Park, CA. This is a permanent 18 hole course that is being continually refined.,
- Taylor Mountain Open Space in Santa Rosa. This course is currently under development as an 18 hole course. The course was played with 18 temporary baskets this year. Permanent baskets are expected to be in by The Steve Werner Memorial in September.
- Luchessi Park in Petaluma. A community park with 9 holes located just in the heart of Petaluma.
The proximity of these courses give us the opportunity to accommodate more players and perhaps migrate the Tournament to an “A Tier” event at a later date.
