We now have a private Twitter group. Any direct message to the group address is sent to everyone who is a member of the group.
Here is how it works.
- First you have to be a Twitter user, of course. It’s easy, just go to Twitter and join.
- I suggest getting a desktop client. If you already have Digsby, you can use it. There is an advantage using Digsby if you use other Instant Messaging networks because there is a good chance that Digsby already supports all of your IM networks (AOL,MSN,ICQ,Yahoo,Twitter). You won’t have to get a separate client. If you don’t have Digsby, you can try Twhirl, one I have experience with. Just Google ‘Twitter Tools’ and you can find any number of desktop clients
- Then you have to “follow” the group. You just go to the groups page and click on the button that says ‘Send Request’. Because we don’t want everyone seeing what we say on the private channel, joining is by request. That’s ok. It shouldn’t take long for it to be approved.
- Now any direct tweet will go to all the members of the group. You send a direct message by
typing ‘d ufosonoma Your message goes here’.
That’s all there is to it. Anything sent to the group goes to everyone that is a member. No one else sees it. Our own private messaging system.
