Steve’s Story

Good news for Steve on two fronts. The scheduled procedure to insert a stint into Steve’s esophagus was canceled. The examination revealed that the radiation treatments have shrunk the tumor enough that the procedure isn’t needed at this time. An another piece of good news (we hope) is that he gets to take a break from the chemotherapy. This is, of course, dependent on the results of a CAT scan that is scheduled for Tuesday. He has been have some pain in his back and side and the doctors want to be sure that is due to a strain (he took a fall recently) and not the metastatic spread to his liver. If this turns out ok, Steve is going to visit his brother in Washington.

The ‘Mock 1′ tournament held at beautiful Browns ‘N Bows over the weekend of October 4, 2008, was a resounding hit. The tournament was a benefit for Steve Werner, long time UFOS member who was recently stricken with Cancer. In spite of the ‘monsoon’ that moved in the night of October 3rd, the turnout was actually pretty good. I believe we had 43 players and we raised a total of $1663 for Steve. This couldn’t have come at a better time because he just moved into a new apartment and this was a great help with moving expenses.
